Question about ECs on college apps

Okay, so I'm pretty sure the common app has about 10-12(?) spaces for ECs. Is it better to fill all 12 up or leave some empty? I have a few ECs that I am very involved in and I am definitely going to list them. However, I also have some that I did not put a lot of time into. Should I list them on my app so that I can fill up all of the spaces, or will that look like resume padding? In that case should I just list the ones that I am actively involved in and leave a bunch of blank space?

bumpppppppppp

Why are you bumping after one hour?

I would rather have two or three ECs that demonstrate my passion than a list of 12 that show little involvement. If you have 12 activities that you are able to demonstrate an impact in, then by all means include them all. However, based on the way that you phrased your question, it sounds like yours would be padding and fluff.

Whoa I totally meant to bump a different post, sorry :stuck_out_tongue:
Okay, thanks. That’s what I thought but I just wanted to make sure.

I think you should include the ECs that if you were asked to talk about in an interview, you’d have a lot to say about/feel comfortable discussing. Otherwise, leave the others out! It might be weird if you were part of a group for 3-4 years and all you can really say is ‘meh’. Better to show passion and drive - and results/awards - for the few clubs you are active in :)

Chance me back if you have time? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1368090-hey-i-just-met-you-crazy-but-here-my-ecs-so-chance-me-maybe.html

Hmm I guess you guys are right but this still troubles me. Like, obviously I’d highlight my major E.C.s more, but some clubs that I used to do/don’t do often are still kind of important and connected to some of my larger commitments. Putting them in may look unimpressive, but leaving them out feels like an incomplete portrait of the progression of my interests… Gah :(

O_o blankk isn’t the OP… I am…
LOL anyway, I think you guys are right. The only thing is that the ECs that have been most important to me throughout high school and that I’ve committed the most time to were things that I did during 11th that I’m continuing into 12th. I did some things during 9th and 10th, but not a lot. If I don’t put anything down for 9th and 10th, it will look like I did absolutely nothing.

Haha I just had a similar problem. And it looks like you already had an answer to what you were looking for! :p
