HI guys,

I'm a rising senior(senior next year) and I was wondering how much prior experience in programming I would need to study EECS. I'm taking AP Comp Sci next year and that will have been my only programming experience in high school thus far. Should I try to learn C over the summer or something(next summer)?

Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

CS 61A is the first CS course for EECS and L&S CS majors, although some students take CS 10 before it.

CS 61A lists a nominal prerequisite of “programming experience equivalent to that gained in 3 or the Advanced Placement Computer Science A course”, although in the past, even that was not listed. (Note: CS 3 has been discontinued; students who want to take a preparatory course are recommended to take CS 10.)

CS 61AS (the self-paced version) lists a nominal prerequisite of “Programming experience equivalent to that gained in 10 or the Advanced Placement Computer Science A course is recommended, but is not essential; students without this experience will begin at an earlier point in the online course.”
