hi i'm currently a freshman at duke & wondering if anyone can help me with this. i was looking through some major requirements and the sociology major requires 5 or 6 electives (100 level or higher) aside from 4 sociology classes. seeing at how it's winter break, i didn't wanna bother an academic advisor or anyone with this trivial question (trivial at the moment anyway--i can ask when i get back). by electives, are these any electives? or sociology classes/classes that cross-list with sociology? it seems too easy for them to be any electives. so will stuff like orgo and biochem (pre med requirements) fulfill these elective requirements??

an “elective” is just any other course in the sociology department besides those four that are required. most majors (at duke anyway) require that you take ten classes in the department of the major. it would make no sense for any other subjects to count towards your major…obviously you’re going to take more than those 4 sociology classes during your time at duke.
