I know ive posted a lot but bear with me please.
The question is should I still apply for fafsa and scholarships even if I'm going the jc route and know my parents could pay for 2 full JC years? Also if I applied and got aid could that be carried over to out of state tuition? Thanks

Question 1: Yes, because free money would be welcomed by your parents.
Question 2: If you mean will it apply if you go to a JC out of state, yes.

If you are asking if aid money received NOW can be applied when you transfer to the university…no. Any grant money you receive for the upcoming year would need to be used for the upcoming year…can’t be banked.

Caveat…if you received a Pell Grant and got a refund from your university, you would be able to keep that money. BUT if your parents can pay your bills, it’s unlikely you are Pell eligible.

I suppose you could get a Direct Loan and bank it…but you would then be paying interest on that loan as it would likely be unsubsidized.

Need based aid is computed and awarded annually.

Tyler, if you’re asking if you get a Pell Grant when you go to your CC, can you then take that money and save it for your future, yes you can. If you have an EFC 0, then you’d get about $5600. That will go directly to the school, and then they will deduct your first and second semester fees/costs unless those costs have been waived.

Since your parents are low income, and divorcing, it sounds like your mom’s income will be so low that you’ll be EFC 0.

If your mom’s income doesn’t qualify for an Auto 0 that doesn’t count student assets, then that saved money won’t hurt you later.
