I have a question regarding Gabelli Business School at Rose Hill and Fordham College at Rose Hill. Which one would I have a higher chance of getting into? I know they are both competitive and I have put Lincoln Center campus as my second choice if I don’t get into Rose Hill.
The reason why I am asking this is because I am confused whether I should apply as a Finance Major at Gabelli or Economics major at Fordham College. Whichever gives me a greater chance of getting into Fordham. Btw I am OOS.
It is important to understand that economics and finance are very different majors. Economics is a liberal arts course of study and gets very theoretical at the upper levels. In contrast if you go to an undergraduate business school you will take a business core with introductory classes in subjects such as accounting, finance, IT, marketing etc. and then you will major in one of those disciplines. I’m not saying that one path is better than the other, but they are different. I would take the time to look at the coursework (can be found online) for both a finance and an economics major and see if one path is preferable to you. https://www.fordham.edu/info/20526/majors_and_minors
As far as I know there are no separate stats posted for Gabelli and Fordham College at Rose Hill. But I believe Gabelli looks for applicants to have taken at least up to precalculus (calculus preferred) and have a 670+ score on the math part of the SAT or a 28+ on the math part of the ACT. https://www.fordham.edu/testscores
Being OOS makes zero difference to Fordham as it is a private school. State residence is only an issue when looking at public colleges (which are supported by the taxpayers in that state).
When my S applied to Fordham years ago there was no option for a second choice campus. I believe it is still the case that you must choose one campus to apply to… https://www.fordham.edu/info/24489/which_campus
Please carefully go through the entire Fordham website as it contains a great deal of useful information.
I would apply to whichever major you have the most interest in. It’s much easier to start freshman year in the college you intend to graduate in. Otherwise, you will have to make up required core classes specific to each program (Gabelli, in particular, has 3 required core classes that freshman take the 1st semester).
Both those majors are excellent choices. I prefer Economics though. GSB-LC is more difficult getting into than GSB-RH. In other words, it is GSB-LC is more competitive and admits a smaller class.
