you don't need to have a tuxedo, do you?

Some people do, but many freshmen don't - basically, don't buy/rent one just for formals, but if you have one/are getting one anyway, go for it.

Yeah, as a freshman, the only thing you'll really need it for is freshman formals, where I'd say less than 50% of the guys wear them. It's a different story though, if you're invited to an eating club's houseparties by an upperclassmen---those you have to wear a tux to.

If you are also in musical performance (a cappella, orchestra, etc.) it is also a good idea to invest in a tuxedo. I believe Glee Club has their own outfit, which they will provide for you at low cost.

Get a good one and you can use it for the years to come.

you dont really even need a tux for formals. i just wore nice pants, an oxford shirt, and a tie. plus, you wouldn't wanna ruin a tux if you wear it to formals.....

I'm sending over my tuxedo from my youth symphony...works well for formals and for music ensembles!
