I'm in ge clst 20A right now and hate it. What happens if I drop it after this quarter? What kind of credit do I still get for taking it fall quarter, and what will I not get credit for because of dropping?

I took the cluster. According to my DPR, the first quarter counts for the Historical Analysis GE. You won't be penalized, but that's all you'll get credit for. If you finish the cluster, you'll get the Literary & Cultural Analysis GE as well as the Social Analysis GE, plus Writing II and seminar credit. Also, if you're in honors, you'll get a whole lot of honors units, but if you drop now, you will get the units for this quarter (I believe). You can always get rid of these GEs and requirements with other classes that aren't as rigorous as the cluster.

Who's your TA by the way? I almost dropped the cluster because of my TA, and lo and behold, next quarter she had like seven people in her two sections put together because she was just that bad. I had a much better experience the next two quarters.

hey i am thinking about dropping my cluster, ge clst 66 (los angeles) ASAP. do i have to notify the head professor? is there a process i need to know to drop it? she knows me by name and i'm afraid to tell her. would i still have historical analysis completed??

**the only reason for dropping is that i want a better chance for an A in a GE, and i'd say 1/2 of the cluster material is boring and the other 1/2 is extremely interesting. i want some GE that is 100% interesting, fun, and easy A.

however, i'm still considering ge clst 66 b/c i got the good TA who supposedly grades easier than the one i just had. i wanna give a try for the first one or two wks and see to what extent she is easier but ALL OF THE GOOD GE classes will be gone, so i need to act QUICKLY.

another problem is i'll need (preferably) a GE class in place of the cluster. which GEs THAT ARE AVAILABLE NOW for winter 2008 that are easy As and are NOT w/e i just fulfilled in my cluster? there's one spot left in art hist 57. i'm interested in taking it in lieu of the cluster...how is it w/ prof named woods-mardsen??

WHAT SHOULD I DO?! i also need to change my chem discussion to a later time (a yucky time) if i decide to take art hist 57. and there is only ONE spot left in that discussion!!!!

ps: i don't intend to take a science GE cuz i'm planning to be phy sci major

your best bet is to keep the cluster. if you wanted to change you should have done it during enrollment, not a month later. also, even if oyu got into an easy GE, how would you know if you liked it

for clusters:

do i need to know material from the previous quarters for the next quarters? are all the info/tests are all based on the existing quarter?

mine (20) wasn't cumulative per se. the idea is that you retain what you've learned, so you can build off of it. but test questions/essays aren't going to be dredging up fall quarter material. you still want to have it in your frame of reference, however. but idk for sure for your cluster.

hey dawritingmachine, who is your new ta for the LA cluster? i'm also in the class and i'd like to know if my ta is the hard grader :(

i am gonna have sasaki cuz lotsa ppl like her... so i made sure i got her. who do u have? idk the reputations of lotsa the TAs.

have u gotten ur grade yet for the class? i'm still waiting for it.

all grades should be in by tonight, right? next week is pretty much a holiday (not to offend other beliefs)?

not necessarily... sometimes there are admin. problems. i had a ling. grade in the summer that wasnt inputted until... about an entire month later. i had a history grade that wasnt inputted until... just beyond the 2 weeks mark. there are others who have stories about delayed grades. generally, they should be in soon though.

I had a chem grade that was put up 2nd week

for my clst, my ucla says:
MyUCLA gradebook final grade:
final grade: A-
Official final grade:
final grade: Not Available

but i thought A- was final...i guess it's not? why do they make it so confusing?
I hope the A- doesn't go down.

Your MyUCLA gradebook final grade will be your official final grade. It always has been for me, anyway.
