Question About GPA and Chances for College of Letters and Sciences?

UC Berkeley is my dream school.

I don't think I'm good enough to get in though.

Does UCB look at your UC GPA (the one used for eligibility) or do they use your uncapped weighted GPA (as in, there's no 8 honor points limit)?

Objective:

SAT I (breakdown): Did not take

ACT: Composite 35 - English 35, Math 35, Reading 33, Science 35, Writing/English 32

SAT II: United States History (740), Math IIC (790), Chemistry (720)

Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.84

UC GPA: 4.10

UC Uncapped GPA (that means there's no limited number of honors points): 4.33

Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): School does not rank.

AP (place score in parenthesis): Computer Science AB (5), Calculus BC (5), English Language and Composition (5), United States History (5)

IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A

Senior Year Course Load: AP Physics, AP Biology, AP Economics Macro, AP Political Science, AP Latin, AP English Literature and Composition, Concert Band

Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): 99 on AMC12? -sigh-

Subjective:

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Marching Band (Front Ensemble Captain for Two Years), Ronald McDonald House Charities Club (President), Science Club (Manager), Freshman Mentoring (Two years as mentor and one year as manager of mentors), Science Olympiad (Captain of Events), Science Club (Treasurer), Computer Science Club (Publicity), Percussion Ensemble (Principal Player), Concert Band Percussion (Principal Chair), Piano for 12 Years (Won several awards)

Job/Work Experience: Two internships (one for hearing lab and another for sociology), Third internship underway, tutored geometry to students, taught piano to students who struggled with music

Volunteer/Community service: Library (60 Hours), Assisted Biomedical Engineer Professor (150+ Hours), Community Service Through Clubs (60+ Hours)

Summer Activities: Internships, Hibernating, Hanging out with friends, Community College Courses

Essays: Don't know yet.

Other

State (if domestic applicant): California

Country (if international applicant): The Great United States of America

School Type: Overly-competitive public

Ethnicity: Asian -sigh-

Gender: Male -sigh-

Income Bracket: Don't know

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): No idea...probably none as of right now

Projected Major: Statistics

FYI Asian is not a ethnicity, it is social race which in most cases clumps East, South, and Southeast Asians (who are all genetically different but culturally linked)

You’ve got a decent shot. Very good SAT subject tests. I don’t know much about the ACT, so I won’t comment on it. Plenty of APs, which is good.

I didn’t know that! Thanks for the info.

I think my ACT equivalent to SAT is about 2340?

And what GPA does UC Berkeley look at? The cap weighted (as in the 8 class honor point limit) or the uncapped weighted (as many honor points as you can get)?

i believe they only look at the capped GPA.

Given what you just said about the ACT, it appears you might be a shoe-in for admission

Aw man that’s not cool. :frowning: I wished they looked at uncapped GPA.

You have a nice ACT score and your GPA isn’t that low to put you out of the running. I’d say you have a respectable chance.

Don’t be so modest. What’s with all these -sighs-? You have a good chance.

berkeley only uses capped gpa in determining eligibility. they do look at your uncapped in admission process… =] it they cap at all it would be at 4.5

:O That makes me happy!

you def are good. i can see you in :)

After looking at your stats and you seem that worried for those stats, i shouldnt even bother applying lol.

You are obviously getting in…

all that’s left are essays

i really don’t understand what you are worried about - you are definitely in.

Does UCB look at major if you apply to LAS?

Not at all. If you apply L&S, the major you list on your application isn’t binding anyway; you’re admitted undeclared.
