I know this may seem like a silly question...but I was wondering if it's possible to go grocery shopping without a car...? I know that Ann Arbor downtown has a few markets and grocery stores, but Meijers, Krogers, etc. aren't located downtown, and I'll probably get my groceries there (I'm assuming they're cheaper...?). I'm only planning on going occasionally (like once a month or something) for mainly fruit and other snacks. Can I bike there? Take a bus?

There are a couple of small markets near campus but they are very expensive. I am pretty sure that you can get to one of the larger markets on a bike or a bus.

Zip car locations

u can take the bus from the union (#6 to Ellsworth) to get to kroger on industrial rd with few min bus ride, shop, and come back within 1 hour during weekdays.

CVS on state has a lot of food and you can always go to Victors on the hill. Personally I would only go to meijer if a friend was driving and offered to take me with, I’ve never been one for the AATA busses.

Trader Joes off of washtenaw is inexpensive, good quality and not too terribly far.

You have a couple of options if you want to do large groceries:

1) Take the route 6 bus (Elsworth) from the Michigan Union and they will drop you off to Meijers and WalMart in Ypsilanti

2) Alternatively, if you live around downtown ann arbor, you can walk to the blake transit center and take route 5 bus which will also drop you off to meijers in Ypsilanti

3) If you live in north campus (or even central campus), you can take the Northwood bus and they will stop in front of Kroger’s (I think it is the stop after the fire station but you can check the bus driver)

For smaller groceries and items, I would recommend you just buy from Village Apocethary or from CVS or the Union. However, for larger bulk items, it is probably a good idea for go to Walmart, Meijers or Krogers.

Hope this helped!

If you don’t like eating crap, Sparrows at Kerrytown is great, also walkable. Not awfully expensive either.

^Plus Kerrytown market trips on Sat. a.m.s are not hard and worthwhile if you like fresh food ;)

Two words: Produce Station. Not too pricey, really high quality stuff, especially if you’re into organic stuff (which I’m not and I still love it), and within walking distance of central campus, especially if you live in East/West Quad or Betsy Barbour-- about half a mile due south of Yost.

Anything within walking distance of North Campus?

Not really, Kroger on Plymouth is probably the closest but you definitely should take the bus for that.
