Question about Harvard Admissions

I'm interested in engineering.
Would it be easier for someone to get into Harvard if she is applying as an engineering major (BME to be exact) than it would if she is applying in a humanities related major? or no?
Does your intended major has anything to do with the admissions process?

Why would you want to go to Harvard for engineering?

because I do.

I would get to do classes at MIT, and Harvard is Harvard.

The name is not everything.
It counts what you make out of it.

Yeah. That's what I'm saying, iwant2go2college.

It's impossible to know what majors constitute a "hook" any particular year. Apply for whatever major you think you waat to do.

No, I'm passionate about engineering, it's not like I'm trying to cheat my way in. Sorry about my last post I didn't express myself correctly. The point with Harvard is that it would be completly free (my fam. makes < 23K) So yeah, and yes, you are all correct, it is what you make of it.

At your income level most top schools will be completely free. Look beyond Harvard. There's plenty of money at the top privates to find low income students. Don't worry about money as long as the schools promise to meet all demonstrated need.

Being low income (First generation?) is a big hook at top schools.

My parents went to college but in a hispanic country, so it doesn't count for anything in the US of A. My mom works in a supermarket, and before she worked at McDonalds for a while. So I'm not 1st generation, though it darn feels like it. Yeah, I know, it's not like I'm putting my hopes into these Ivies, I'm thinking of applying to Cornell and UPenn as well. (and I'd choose either of those two over Harvard anyday, even I get in)

Interesting... the allure of the Ivies are keeping you away from applying to top BME programs like JHU, Duke, UCSD (funding sucks, unless you get regents), MIT (limited to a few students)? And... cross registering at MIT is difficult because of the different schedules.

Noo...I'm not not applying to other good BME schools, I just listed those, MIT I don't want b/c I'm afraid that I'll discover that engineering is not for me and I'll be stuck in a technical school.
I am applying to a few SUNYs, one CUNY, a few other private schools like RPI, WPI, Syracuse, Tufts, BostonU, Hofstra, Loyola, etc.

uh... and you won't be stuck in "technical" RPI + WPI?

yes, but I'm applying there as safeties

yeah? which makes it more important they're a good fit.

i don't get what you mean, but I happen to like RPI A LOT... (?)

dont ask questions about harvard b/c no one knows the answer

ditto myheartisinohio.

I once heard a Duke admissions officer allude to the fact that a girl might have a better shot at admission if they were applying to the engineering school, HOWEVER, no one can just go checking that box if they haven't shown a passion for engineering on their transcipt, the adcom will know if some1 is just checking it to get an easier admission or b/c they really are interested/passionate about engineering.

That's the thing though, i'm interested in engineering, but how do i show that? i'm doubling in ap sciences next year, and i'm also taking a math class over the summer. I dont know what else to do. :/
