I was accepted into the honors college and have decided on which living learning program I prefer, but I would like to know if we absolutely MUST dorm in honors housing. Would I be able to dorm on campus in the “normal” school while still being in the honors program? And if it is possible, would I need a more serious reason than “I’d be more comfortable with a friend or two in my dorm”? Thanks for your time.
You don’t absolutely have to live in the honors dorm. However, I would really recommend that you do. If you are unhappy there you can possibly move out after first semester, or at the latest, after freshman year. The transition to college from high school is huge academically, and socially too. My daughter was in the same boat as you. She wasn’t thrilled with her honors dorm, but we stressed the importance of having a little quieter dorm to study in. Also, you would miss out on bonding with other students in your chosen program. The worst that can happen is that you decide you don’t want to continue living in honors housing your sophomore year.
Thank you for the quick reply. I’ll take your advice into consideration.
