Hi!

Does the acceptance letter also note acceptance into Pitt's honors college?

A few days ago, we got a letter from the Dean of Pitt's Honors College, saying our daughter's name had been passed to them as a possible candidate for the UHC.

We received the admissions letter today, but it didn't say anything about DD being admitted to UHC. So we are a little puzzled.

Would appreciate it if someone can shed some light on this!

Many thanks,
Wendy

My DD acceptance indicated an invitation to participate in the Honors College. Not sure what the standard letters consist of. She applied Sept 7th and acceptance letter was dated Oct. 6th. Good luck!

I think to be accepted into UHC you definitely get a letter from them stating acceptance (I know I got a separate letter, with my admissions, at least). If she’s a possible candidate now, it may be that they wait a bit to see who else is accepted before they finalize her position or not. Just a theory.

Those who receive their offer of admission and their acceptance into the University Honors College at the same time are likely the very strongest candidates. Our older son’s initial acceptance letter also invited him into UHC. Then about 2 weeks later he received the offer of a full tuition scholarship. He is a junior in engineering at Pitt and just loving it!

However, having read this forum for several years and also being aware of other friends’ kids who were accepted to Pitt’s UHC with full and partial merit scholarships, we know that the initial acceptance letter is not the only time offers are made. Sometimes, the process takes a bit longer while the UHC folks have an opportunity to carefully evaluate all aspects of applications. Our second son was recently admitted to College of Arts and Sciences- Computer Science and we are still hoping he might be admitted to the UHC and receive merit aid.

Last year we also got that parent letter in advance of acceptance and it was just an info letter in case you hadn’t heard about the UHC. My ds actually didn’t get into UHC until about a month after his regular acceptance with merit offer (partial not full) coming weeks after that, so it isn’t always a one-shot mailing for sure! It certainly changed the game though when we got that merit letter!

My S got his UHC acceptance letter about 2 weeks after his university acceptance letter. He got a partial ($10K) scholarship and, like amandakyak, it ended up to be the difference. Not as much the scholarship by itself (he got equivalent/better money from other schools) but UHC in combination with it. He is enjoying his freshman year very much thus far.
