Are interviews something that you schedule or do you just submit Part I of the common app and wait to be contacted?

Interviews are part of your visit to campus if you visited and although suggested are not mandatory.

You will receive a phone call or an email to schedule an interview if there is an interviewer in your area. Don't worry if you do not get one, because not everyone is interviewed. My son who is now a junior did not.

We told last week that you have to contact them to let them know you want an interview (there is an 800 number for this on their website). When my D called, however, she was told she's already on the list of people to be contacted for an interview so it's unclear whether you need to initiate it (as we were told) or not.

In my case, I didn't sign up or anything for an interview. One day my guidance counselor told me that the next day a guy from WashU (turned out to be the parent(who didn't go to WashU himself) of a WashU student) was coming to interview three of us who were applying to WashU. So...yeah....it went okay.

My son received a postcard in the mail stating that someone in our town--not St. Louis--would be calling him soon to set up an interview, and indeed the interviewer did call within a couple of days. That was after submitting Part 1. However, it is my opinion that it doesn't hurt to call the admissions office and ask, to make sure they know you are interested.

You can set up an interview after you have paid and turned the Pre-App Data in. Just call up the admissions office and tell them you want an off-campus interview.

I called them up mid-October to set up an interview before the Early Decision deadline; they said someone will contact me in November. I called them today and they said it's hardly likely that I can do my interview before Wed. They said they will make a note on my application that I requested to do an interview and whatnot.

SO! Set up your interviews early/on time...
