I plan to attempt to double Major in both Economics and Philosophy anywhere I go. However, there is no place or Alternate major in the Berkeley section. Would I be better off to put Philosophy as my major seeing as my SAT math score is very low (640), and my CR and W scores are much higher, (760,710)?

Put philosophy, b/c fewer folks choose it and yoyr scores look more like a future philsophy major. But for Cal admin does it matter what you put?

I am told it does not because everyone in LAS really applies as Undeclared.

Within the college of Letter and Science, it does not matter what major you put. But my advice is to put the one least impacted. Economics and Biology are highly impacted major.

This will not affect what classes I can sign up for will it?

It doesn't matter at all, but I'd put philosophy. ;-)

The thing is they do look at applications wholistically, and there so many wannabe economics and business majors, being a wannabe philosophy major might be good.

Your intended major is NOT a consideration for acceptance into L&S.

But does it affect class priority and selection once enrolled?

No, not at all. Everyone enters L&S as equals, no one has a major or intended major or anything. After you finish your prereqs, only then do you declare a major. This differs from the College of Engineering, Chemistry, etc.

I agree with bluebayou and kenf1234; putting one of the other will neither help nor hurt you.
