In addition to all the stress of applying to college my family just dropped a new bombshell on me. They dont want me majoring in International Relations which has been my intended major since my sophmore year. Their logic in all of this is that they dont want me to be unemployed my whole life. Their suggestion is i major in something practical and then if i still want to, pursue graduate studies in IR Apart from IR i have no idea where my interests may lie. So if theres any suggestions on majors please help. Second question is does going in undeclared effect the admissions process? The schools i was considering where like really based on their IR programs. The schools were University of Washington
Depaul
American
UC Davis, Irivne
George Mason
Goucher
University of the Pacific
My safety schools were all Cal states which i decided a while back if i had to go to a cal state my major would change for obvious reasons. Safeties: SF, SJ, and SD.
Some schools that appealed to me but i ruled out because their lack of an IR programs were UCSC and University of San Francisco. So now im just totally lost.

Listen as this is very important...
Your family obviously wants the best for you. and in that case the best thing to do is to let you choose for yourself. If you don't start taking responcibility for yourself now you are going to get a major smack in the face later on. You should decide what you want and what is best for you, and majoring in international relations does not mean that you will be unemployed for the rest of your life. In fact, the opposite is true. On Janruary 1st 2007 Romania and Bulgaria will be joining the European Union. A new United Nations Secretary-Genral was just elected, and UN peacekeepers are determing the best way to assist the African Union in Darfur Sudan, as well as keep Israel out of Lebanon. Hints of globalization are everywhere, and the world needs international expertise. The previous generations do not realize this because they were raised in a more nationaly focused world (i.e. the cold war). Good for you that you want to major in IR. Secondly, if you honestly agree w/ your parents or you just don't have the spine to stand up to them, I would recomend doing the following... Double Major in Economics (the important part) and Political Science. Or double Major in International Economics and International Business. I would reccomend U of Mich. or Columbia if you want to go international. American College is also very qualified. Lastly the double major listed above is what I am doing. Also let me inform you that Not only is employment outlook for economists booming but it is proven that (aside from surgeons and anesthesiologists) that graduates of the following majors earn a higher sallary than any other employment possition, these also provide the best way to start your own business if you so choose. There was an interview conducted on the CO's of all the fortune 500. they asked what the 2 most saught and valued majors were. There answer was engineering and ECONOMICS. Let me know how things go and i would love to answer any more questions
