Ok, so here's the deal.
I will be declaring a major soon. However, I plan to transfer and some of the schools I'm applying for transfer to do not have this major and I will have to do something else if I go to them. Will they find it strange that I've declared a nmajor and want to transfer to another school that doesn't have that major?

Do you absolutely need to declare a major at your current school?

Depends on the university you want to transfer to. You usually have to declare a major becuase you're already going to be a junior.. If your anticipated school does not offer your major, look through the offered ones, but if you're really passionate about a certain major and your school doesn't offer it, I recommend you to look into the school that does have that major.. because well, that is your passion.

I need to declare a major, because if you must declare it in the first semester of your sophomore year if you plan to study abroad. I want to leave my options open in case I decide to stay here. Also, no, I'm not passionate enough about this major to discount a certain school just because it doesn't offer it. Also, if I stay, I will definitely major in it, so I need to declare it now, just to leave my options for staying open.

I have to apply for study abroad now, so I also can't declare something else then change it if I decide to stay if I want to study abroad.

I'm not really passionate about any particular majors. I plan to be a writer, so I'm not really concerned with what exactly I major in.

I'm curious: what major are you planning to declare that is not offered at a lot of other institutions?

if you have declared a major that is not available at some of the schools you plan to transfer to, that could be one of your reasons for transferring that you cite: you want to switch majors
