My gpa for 9th-11th grade has been 95ish and my rank is 9/650. But this year, I'm taking all AP courses, and my grades are down quite a bit to an average in the 92-93 range. My class rank won't change, but I'm getting a couple of B's. I'm afraid this will affect my chances for Yale?

In general, forget chances. You get what you get, they take you or not. Do your best in the classes, but don't tear yourself up over a couple Bs. Plenty of people get in with [gasp] C's! even.

Yeah, no worries. They'll see it's a harder course load and the fact of senior year (they don't mind a slight slippage in performance this time in HS... just don't get academic probation or something like that). And, 92-93ish? That is not a bad GPA.

I thought the first semester grades are important and that colleges use them to make their final decision. For example, if a deferred applicant got Bs last year and got As or As and Bs this year. This will help him. But if he got Bs this year, then he shows that he can't handle a rigorous courseload. Just my 2 cents. Otherwise, don't worry. You just do your best, and things just happen.

i think i heard that that's one of the horror stories the yale rep tells people on the tour
