How important is the Mid-Year Report? During 3 years of high school, I've held a 4.0uw GPA. On the Mid-Year report, however, I will receive my first B+. My rank will drop down to 2 -- .006 behind the valedictorian.... How much will this hurt me, especially because it's the last semester and the rank is dropped down to 2? It's a Bio 233 class, which has never before been taken by a high school kid at my school and I was the only teenager in a room with 30 year olds.
Here's my other credentials.. should you need them...:

Mid-Year Report:
Calculus II (Math 116 at University of Michigan- Dearborn) -- A
Forensic Science (at DCMST) -- A
Anatomy and Physiology (Biology 233 at Community College) -- B+
Advanced Placement Literature/Composition (Home High School) -- A
Advanced Placement Environmental Science (Home High School) -- A
World Civlization (Home High School - State Mandated) -- A

My counselor checked that I have the most demanding courseload available, although the classes I have taken are not all weighted.

What do you think of my counselor submitting a note explaining the difficulty of the class (to explain the B+), and then explaining the EC, work, and home circumstances that she and I felt prevented me from taking the extra AP/weighted class that would have ensured my rank of 1? -- as I do have many more responsibilities than the current valedictorian does (shown in the thread above).

How heavily is the Mid-Year report weighted for admission to Yale?

So are you running for president? Salutorian, football captain, homecoming king, etc...

I think you need to grab a paper bag to breathe into. You've gotten straight As for 3 years; one B+ isn't going to kill you. Trust me, not all kids that attend Yale have straight As for all 4 years. All the people that I know who go there got in with several Bs in easier classes than yours.

I think the midyear report is just to show them that you haven't slacked off and gotten straight Cs your senior year.

I wouldn't have your counselor send a letter. It only emphasizes the B+ and makes you look very uptight and anxious. Of course all applicants are, but an admissions officer having a bad day might view the letter as excuse-making, showing that you can't roll with the punches, and think that you generally need to chill out.

I got in early with 3 B+'s during my junior year and all other A's (and I'm not an URM, legacy, or athlete--just your standard applicant). Don't worry about it. And don't send the letter. I agree with AA that it might make you seem uptight.

Nope. My first time two weeks ago from a really rude, picky, horrible teacher. Not only was I suspended, but two other people too -- for one day. We talked to the vice-principal and she said that it would be counted for an absence only, and not a severe suspension. Usually severe suspensions are 3 days or 10 days, and I am not sure if the one day suspension will be on the transcript according to the vice-principal's words. I will talk to my counselor ASAP tomorrow just in case.
