Question about minors

My major falls under the College of Letters and Science, and according to this[/url”>http://registrar.ucdavis.edu/UCDWebCatalog/academicinfo/minor.html]this, it says that

I’m not sure what would fall under interdisciplinary minors, but since my major is in the College of Letters and Science, does that mean I can’t minor in a subject offered by the College of Letters and Science?

I believe it is what is says. For instance French and Italian are in the same department so you could not major in one and minor in the other. I majored in Biological Sciences and took a minor in History since they were in different departments no problem. Film Studies is an example of an interdisciplinary minor which spans multiple departments. If you major was in one of those departments you would need to apply to get the Film Studies minor approved. Best wishes.

So as an East Asian Studies major, I can’t minor in Linguistics or Music?

While they’re all in the College of Letters and Science, they are all different departments/programs. Given that, you could major/minor in any combination of them.

I think the problem here is semantics. I’m fairly sure sweetlacecharm’s confusion stems from differentiating departments from college.

Judging from the website(s), it seems that as an East Asian Studies major you can’t minor in Chinese or Japanese (language).
