Question about Naviance

My school has Naviance. I have a username and password so I can log in and see a list of all the schools I applied to. However, I can't find scattergrams anywhere and I'ver heard people on this site talking about them. Anyone know how I can see a scattergram?

my school has naviance, too. are you sure that your guidance department has entered acceptances/deferrals/rejections into your school's list?

No, I don't know. I saw a scattergram for one school though, but it was when I was in my guidance counselor's office. Could it be possible that he can access them and I can't?

it is possible. your guidance counselor has to select what privileges students have in accessing the site. like before, mine was set so that i couldn't add colleges to my list from home, so i told my gc and she fixed it so that i could.

Ok, thank you very much.

you're welcome, glad to help :)

Naviance is software and thus only as good as the info your college counselors insert for you to use.

Some Naviance programs don't include scattergrams. For example, my son's school's Naviance site doesn't have it. But there's still a lot of useful info on it.

You should complain........why did they buy the software and not put effort into showing you results? Are they afraid to release the facts of their student body? One can only hope you aren't paying tuition.

lol the scattergrams are my favorite part of the program :)

The GCs at our school have access to scattergram info from other schools. They are able to, for example, compare our school admittance rates to those from other area high schools. The students and parents do NOT have the ability to access this information. Keep in mind that the scattergrams can be limited in what they provide for info. They are based on SAT and GPA only. They do not indicate other tipping factors in the admissions process (e.g. recruited athletes, development monies, legacies, ecs, recommendations..). Also, Naviance has filters that prevent info that would divulge particular students to be found on scattergrams. For example, if less than a certain number of student apply to a school, that school cannot be plotted. Also, if ONE student has a statistic from a school, that schools admit rates will not be accessible. For example at our high school, one student was denied admittance to a school and that school no longer appears because THAT student would be easily identified (only one who was denied at the hs from that college).

thumper- that's not true with my school's naviance. with ours, it is easy to pinpoint who a person is, especially when they are the only person who has ever applied to a school. example: only one kid has applied to mit since we got the program a while back, and they were rejected. it shows their gpa/sat scores and there's a red x on the scattergram.

what is naviance?

Squiggle, I was at a recent (two days ago) presentation with our Guidance chair. He said that the "one person" thing is a new filter that Naviance has institituted. In fact, it took him by surprise because he had been looking at info from a college and the next day that school did not appear. He called, and they said THEY had put in the "one person" thing. From what I understand about individual high schools, they choose the number for filtering out what could be identifying info. Our school has chosen 5 students...in other words, at least five students must apply to a college for any info about that school to appear on a scattergram. Ours is a small school.

yeah, i wish my school did that 5-student thing. see, most people go to state schools from my school so it's easy to see a scattergram trend in acceptances because there are dozens of dots, but hardly anyone applies to reach schools, and very rarely ivies, so those are the ones that are easy to single out.
