Does anyone remember whether the NEC application asked you to submit a list of audition repertoire? Mine's coming up soon but I may be playing something different than what I planned to back in November/December. Does the school have applicants fill out a form on audition day?

I'm trying to avoid emailing an admissions counselor from there because I feel like I've already done so way too many times (I kept thinking of other questions that I forgot to ask). Thanks!!

sprstr, you are going to be hurt by your lack of attention to detail. As several of us have said on different occasions, part of the application process is being able to follow instructions and this is to help you make the transition from living at home to being on your own at college. The answer to your question lies right on the NEC web site and is not the same as what stradmom has quoted. Since you are a flutist, perhaps there are differences among the majors, here is what is written:
FLUTE:
Preliminary Audition CDs (all programs except AD):

Mozart - Exposition of 1st and 2nd movements of the Concerto in G or D Major.

Contrasting piece of the candidate’s choice.

Orchestral Excerpts (3 total):

A. Beethoven Leonore Overture No.3 - measures 328-360.
B. Brahms Symphony No.4, last movement - measures 93-105.
C. Mendelssohn Scherzo from Midsummer Nights Dream - 2 measures before P to the end.

Undergraduate Auditions:

One Etude.

Mozart Concerto in G or D Major - movements 1 and 2.

Major contemporary work (complete sonata, concerto, or substantial work such as Dutilleux Sonatine, Jolivet Chant de Linos, Martin Ballade, or Sancan Sonatine).

Three Orchestral Excerpts displaying a variety of styles.

Mezzo’smama, are you serious!? It’s funny that you would accuse me of lack of attention to detail, yet not take the time to actually read my question, which was NOT answered on the NEC website. I wish you’d stop jumping at the opportunity to try to make me look disorganized–I can follow directions just as well as the next person.

It was, however, answered in the confirmation e-mail you should have received from NEC before your audition:)
“Please check in at least one hour prior to your audition time at the table located immediately inside the front entrance of the Jordan Hall Building located at 290 Huntington Avenue. From there, we will direct you to your warm-up and audition rooms. A warm up room will be provided for 30 minutes prior to your audition. We will also provide you with a form on which you can write your audition repertoire to present to the faculty at your audition”

At the risk of insulting anyone’s intelligence which I truly don’t mean to do(!)-

I always suggested to my kids that they “practice” writing the various composers names quickly and accurately. Amazing how “Tchaikovsky”, “Wieniawski”, “Medelssohn” and others can morph under nerves/pressure! Somehow, you know it doesn’t look right, but can’t quite get it fixed - not where you want your attention fixed just before entering the audition arena.

Sprstr, I can’t imagine dealing with “Dutilleux” when about to play an audition! I’m sure there are other flute-twisters.

The other to watch is Juilliard - those i’s pop into the strangest places!

Fiddlestix, I literally copied the names letter-by-letter from the sheet music I brought with me… I thought I was being overly paranoid at the time haha. Then I sat there double-checking everything (including the spelling of my own name!)
