Question about Oct. Essay - irrelevancy?

I got the essay about humor - something like, "is humor the best approach to difficult situations and problems?"

I said NO, but then went on to say like "humor is not the best approach, as it is better to approach difficult situations with a serious attitude"
and went on to use examples of random people who had serious approaches and succeeded in overcoming these difficult circumstances.

it didn't come to me until after i'd already finished writing my essay that perhaps i'd taken the WRONG approach to the essay. Since basically i didn't mention humor at all beyond the first paragraph.... would they give my essay a 0? I only realized till afterwards that what i SHOULD have done if i had taken the opposing side was to say "no, humor is not the best approach as shown in these examples where using humor led to failure to overcome difficult situations."

Sooo yeah it's like freaking me out right now because i'm genuinely beginning to think they'll give me a zero for irrelevancy. I would have been better off just talking about humor but using terrible examples and writing horribly... because that way I would get at least like a 2 right?

So help me here. do you think the way I approached my essay was "irrelevant"? :/

Did you use the word humor AT ALL in your essay besides the introduction? If you used it at least in your conclusion to tie everything together you should be okay…

oh damn i don’t recall :/…

hopefully i did just throw in the word humor in the conclusion. but even if i had randomly put that in the conclusion, would it make a difference? T_T

ya you should start freakin out. You’re gonna get a 0.

jk.
If you talked about how they approached difficult situations seriously and it worked then you’re fine. Even if you did not use the word humor, you are showing that you disagree with using humor as the best approach. Don’t worry about it.

I did the exact same approach as you did, but I would always add at the end of my reasoning for my examples something like “If X were to try to skirt around the problem with a petty joke, the problem would have not been solved” or something to that effect.

I really don’t think they would give you a 0 for what you did.

Oh ok thank you guys … i really do hope so! i appreciate your reassurance

yeah lockdown… i should have done what you did just to be sure. haha that would’ve been smart
