Question about Orientation

I'm going to be a freshman for Fall 2012 at UCSB. I have an undeclared major, and I don't really know what I want to major in yet. Now I know that in orientation you get to register for classes, however, many of the classes I like seem full now and the cost of orientation seems pretty high. I was wondering if orientation is worth it if I don't know what classes I really want yet. Also, I was wondering if it's better to go to orientation with a parent or go alone, because going with a parent will make the cost of orientation even higher. However, I am more of the quiet type and sort of shy, so the idea of going alone does make me feel pretty nervous, since I assume there will be much socializing among incoming freshman at orientation (not to say that I won't socialize, just that it will be pretty nerve-wracking being alone).

One more thing, do most freshman in orientation go alone or with parent(s)?

I think the parents and the kids go to separate orientations anyway, so it probably isn’t worth for them to come unless they really want to. Orientation should be a good place to meet new people because almost everyone is alone and friendless on that day. Don’t worry that the classes say full, they save room for freshmen.
