Question about Physics 9B and 9C

I’m a geology major and I have to choose a Physics sequence, 7 or 9. . For Physics 9B, Math 21D is a co-req. For Physics 9C, Math 21D is a pre-req and Math 22A is a co-req. I realize that pre-reqs/co-reqs are not usually enforced.

I’ve already taken Math 21 A,B, and C, so I have a working knowledge of trig, limits, differentiation, integration, solids, and basic vectors (from last part of 21C). I’d rather not take any further Math if I can avoid it. I’d rather self-study what I need.

Specifically, is any Math from 21D and 22A actually used in Physics 9B and 9C? If so, which specific topics. Thanks.

bump…any engineers or physical science majors out there?

You can’t get around the math classes. You’re going to have to take them at some point.

9B wasn’t that hard. It’s mostly light and waves and a bit of thermodynamics. 9C didn’t have any matrices, again, it was electricity and magnetism material. Keep in mind this was the 2010-2011 school year but I don’t think they’ve changed their requirements.

I don’t recall doing any thing related to 21D or 22A math in either class. 21D is mostly triple integrals and 22A is stuff like matrices.

@kingofthering. Thanks for the info. The point of my question is that as a geology major they don’t require Math past 21C, yet they specify Physics 9ABC as an alternative to Physics 7ABC. So, you can end up taking Physics 9ABC without taking Math 21D and 22A, even though Math 21D and 22A are listed as pre-reqs for the Physics courses. Since they don’t really check pre-reqs at Davis, I wanted to know how much Math I would really need for the Physics 9 series. I think you’ve answered it. Anybody else? Thanks.
