I received a letter in the mail from a bank regarding private student loans and I was reading the fine print just for fun (I'm really bored.) - I thought that for a student without any credit history, there'd always have to be a credit-worthy cosigner available in order to get student loans - however, in the letter, it says;

"For students who have not attained the age of majority in their state of residence, a cosigner will be required."

The "age of majority" in most states is 18, which is how old a lot of college Freshman are - does this mean that simply being 18 is enough to get a loan? The cap for undergraduate loans from this particular bank is 125,000.

Oh, and to be clear, I’m well aware of the ramifications of private student loans (and oftentimes, student loans in general) - I’m not interested in borrowing. Just curious regarding this single piece of literature, lol.

sure you can get a loan once you are 18…IF you can show income to support it. you still have to qualify…and most cant.

but if you are under 18, even if you have the income, you cant sign a loan…it wouldnt be legal.

Ohhhh. Okay, thank you! lol I’m sure a part time job at Hollister (which is the extent to most college bound 18 year olds’ employment) won’t warrant the disbursement of a 6 figure loan.

Hollister barely counts as a part-time job for 30% of the people they hire. Lol

@Niquii77 - Have you ever worked at Hollister? The Hollister near my house is apparently always hiring because half the people I know work there - I couldn’t handle it myself. The poor lighting coupled with the loud music on loop would probably knock me out, lol. Not to mention the strong signature scent that ~wafts~ from the store.

I’ve worked for them for a couple years now. Hollister always hires. It’s ingrained in their company “culture”. There’s always new faces and more employees than available shifts, which explains my previous comment. Lol

Hollister is hard to handle at times, but it’s clearly tolerable for me since I still work for them! The smell is obnoxious. The rooms are so dark I’ve learned to always assume someone else is in the room even though you can’t see them. And the looped music is so beat into my head I’m able to tell you what song is coming next and maybe tell you last Thanksgiving’s playlist. :))

Unfortunately, many teenagers do come to Hollister, expecting a steady income or paycheck only to find out that they aren’t being scheduled for weeks on end or maybe at most 10 hours in two weeks.

@Niquii77 - Ohh that makes sense - my friend works there and her shift is 6-10 two days a week which I thought was odd because it seems like almost no time whatsoever. What do you do at Hollister? Like are there better positions/duties than others? There’s always someone folding shirts at the first table when you walk in greeting people, without fail at the store near me. There’s only like 10 shirts on that table too, but they’re always being folded haha.

Do you have to wear the clothes when you’re working?

I’ve been trying to get a job but I haven’t heard back - I’ve sent in applications to bookstores and office supply stores but to no avail - but everyone I know who applies to Hollister lands the job relatively quickly.

I’m going to PM you. :)
