Hey,

I tried a search for my question, but was unable to find the answer to it. I am just curious, do you think the rankings of whether being number 4 or number 1 makes much of a difference, as long as you are in that top percentile, especially if the gpa points are off by like .1 ?
Just curious
Thanks

Obviously it depends on what high school you go to

If you go to an unknown public school, you better be at the top. If you go to Andover, it's fine to be in the top 25%

no it doesnt matter if you're 1 or 4. Especially if the difference in gpa is mere tenths of a point.

i see thanks for the response.

do they know the difference in gpa?

i haven't a clue. i know it though.

I was just wondering, because my school does class rank by weighted grades, so I'm 4th even though I have had straight A's. A girl with a little lower grades has a higher rank than me.

My counselor says that schools don't look at rank as much because all schools do it differently and it can be easily manipulated. But according to a lot of posts on this board, that isn't true, am I right?

Also, if my school does an overall class rank and a class rank that doesn't count your ninth grade year, which should I use?

Whichever one is higher. Me personally, ninth grade was horrible for me so I'd leave it out. If you did well in ninth and it helps your class rank, use that one.

My 10-12 rank is 1 rank higher, as I took theatre instead of a honors history class in ninth grade (history isn't required in ninth grade). But don't they ask your counselor what rank you are? What if my counselor uses the other rank? Will they think I was lying?

Talk to your counselor and ask if he/she will put the other rank instead.
