Crisis

I just found out that my schools ranks. There are 35 kids in my class and I am ranked ninth. That's not even the top 25%. Will it affect my chance of getting into a good college?

How competitive is your school?

your school should not rank with 35 students. talk to your college counselor.

and if she doesnt change it, the colleges will see that its out of 35, so chances are they won't convert it to a percentage like that.

It's one of the best private schools in the state, I think its ranked second.

well maybe that would compensate for the low(er) rank then. im no expert, but i think that it will all come down to your gpa. if you have a 3.9 uw and are ranked 9 out of 35 there should be no problem. however if you have a 2.5 and are ranked there, well, your rank seems a little more suiting.

i just really don't understand why your school ranks. i go to an international school with a graduating class of 28 and this is exactly why they don't rank. however, they do note on applications if a student has the highest, second highest, or third highest gpa in the class. it's a little more fair, and a lot less deceiving at first glance.

All depends on how many kids go to top univs each year. If it is like 3 to Harvard, 3 to Yale, etc., nothing to worry about.

I have a 3.74, 4.00 being 100%.

thats a great gpa. AP or IB or just standard classes?

There were 12 kids in last year's graduating class. The majority went to the University of Washington, one girl went to the University of Michigan another girl went to Upenn and another guy went to Northwestern.

Standard classes. My school does not offer ap or honors. The academics are rigorous enough.
