Question about Recs

Hey everyone - I had a question about recommenders on Common App. My school uses Naviance, and one of my teachers is doing online recs, the other is doing handwritten and mailed. The teacher doing online recs submitted the recs, and on Common App under "Assign Recommenders" it shows the teacher's name and that they submitted. However, what about the teacher who submitted them through mail? That teacher mailed them out a week ago, but it does not show on the Common App. Will the Common App show an offline teacher recommendation as submitted?

And also, I know that for teacher recs you can submit them after you submit your Common App, but what about extra recs? Can they be submitted after submitting the Common App too? And can they be done offline?

Sorry for asking so many questions

The common app will not update to show receipt by your schools of items that are sent by mail. Most schools have a portal to show you what parts of your app are still missing.

You can go ahead and submit your app whenever you are ready. Recs, school reports, transcripts and test scores just need to be submitted by the deadline, but it’s fine if those are submitted before or after your app and supplement.

Thanks so much for answering! That brings me to another question - the school i’m applying to does a priority deadline, but that deadline is in a few days. If I submit my Common App now, what if the mailed rec doesn’t get received until after the priority deadline?

The deadline at most schools is the date by which all materials must be postmarked, not received. To reassure yourself, call the school.
