So say I apply to a school regular decision rolling admission next week. I hear back sometime mid-October and I learn that I have been deferred. Since the Early Decision deadline hasn’t passed yet, can I reapply to this same school Early decision assuming I haven’t applied anywhere else ED? The more I think about the stupider this question sounds and I’m pretty sure than answer is a definite no, but I just want to make sure. Thanks.
Yes you can, even if you’re not deferred. Applying RD and rolling admission is allowed with ED (check each school to verify). But if you were deferred for a rolling admission school you would not be competitive for an ED school.
Are you saying the SAME school has both ED and rolling?
@bodangles yes like wake forest for example
Wake Forest’s web site:
Notifications of Acceptance:
Early Decision applicants
Notified on a rolling basis. Early Decision candidates are either accepted, deferred to the Regular Decision applicant pool, or are not accepted.
Regular Decision applicants
Notified by April 1. Regular decision applicants are either accepted, placed on the Wait List, or not accepted.
I’m not seeing how you would pull this off. They notify ED applicants of their decisions on a rolling basis, but the regular round is RD, not rolling???
Also, “deferred” is an early decision term… That’s not something you can get in RD.
