How selective is San Jose State being that it is very impacted and the whole service area thing for locals? How does that even work exactly? Do locals get admitted first and THEN out of areas? I'm not meaning this to be a "chance" thread, but let's just say how competitive is it for out of area but in state students who meet the req's and have above a 3.0 to get in? Is it harder than one might think for a CSU? Cause at my school the CSU's are always advertised as incredibly easier to get into than UC's...

SJSU is “impacted”, which simply means that you’ll have to exceed the minimum standards to get in. It indicates nothing about how much over the minimum standards you need to be.

That said, SJSU is only a little harder to get into than most CSUs, but being in their service area is not that much of a boost, and the school is still not very selective. A 3.0/1800 or 3.3/1500 should be enough.
