Is it possible to fax the official score report forms the ACT sent me over to colleges? Or is there no way around the $9 fee?

Also, if I do have to send them, because it is December 30th, by the time ACT processes the scores.. the colleges won't get them until mid January or so. Since the deadline for my applications are January 1st, is that still ok? If worse comes to worse should I fax/mail in a photocopy with a note saying that the scores have also been officially sent and will arrive soon?

Most submissions are electronic. The college gets them pretty much as soon as ACT/SAT sends them. BUT,they aren’t sent the INSTANT you request them either. I know that my D’s SAT scores show having been sent to the colleges about 4-7 days after I requested them. I don’t think ACT shows a status like College Board/SAT does.

If you’re sending via “snail mail” (applications and such), most schools only ask that they be POSTMARKED by the deadline. So, I think if you put in the REQUEST, you’ll be fine.

There is no way around the $9 (unless you have a fee waiver due to low income…I don’t really know how that works, I assume you’d know if you had one?).

Mail/fax is definitely NOT the “official copy”. Their requirement for the official copy is assumedly so that no one can game the system (figure out how to reproduce the report, change the stats, send THAT…you know - CHEAT!).

HOWEVER… it MIGHT depend on the school!

My D’s high school counselor who was a college admissions counselor for many years, and still works with the high schools students ONLY on their college apps…said that SOME colleges (my guess is very lower level??) will accept the school’s transcript as “official” - as some of the schools record the students ACT/SATS as they’re officially reported to THEM, and send THOSE scores on with the transcript. My D’s school does this, and we weren’t even aware of it.

So…
It’s too late to check with your high school, I assume, to see if they do that. And too late to check with the college too. But I included that data here for someone else in case they needed to know in future.

I’d say to request the report, and not worry…you’ve met the deadline.
