My son wants to improve his overall GPA from what he has at the end of Junior year. His school recalculates the GPA only at the end of first semester, end of Jan-2017. He thinks he can reach his GPA goal if he maintains straight As in all course till then.
Several colleges he’s applying to have application deadlines in Dec. Will sending the recalculated GPA at the end of Jan to these schools make a difference if they have already reviewed his application in the prior 2 months?
Thanks
Most (all?) schools require you to send the first semester grades when they are available, so they will see any improvement (or not).
You need to check the colleges to which he intends to apply. Many colleges require that you send a mid-year report with your first semester grades after you have applied and those are used along with grades through junior year to determine admission. However, many (and, contrary to the above, it may actually be the majority and includes the majority of public universities) do not even want a mid-year report and they make admission decisions based on grades through junior year and then use senior grades in June to determine if an admission should be withdrawn. You mention application deadlines in December. If those are early to mid-December regular admission deadlines rather than end of December, then there is a good chance those may be colleges that do not use first semester, senior year grades to make admission decisions.
You’re right, I was thinking of Common App schools my kids applied to when I replied. However, there were definitely schools (UC’s) where no transcript was sent and only up to junior year grades were self reported.
