Question about shipping your stuff to school

How many weeks before you start school should you ship your stuff down?

I move in august 15th and have to send stuff from california to arizona. im assuming that will only take a couple days?

I'm not driving down, im flying with the rest of my family. I will not be bringing anything big from home so should i just take my stuff(mainly clothes) on the plane with me instead?

thanks

I think that the most economical way of sending packages is through USPS Parcel Post. It takes between 3-8 days so if you leave on a Tuesday, sending it on the previous Tuesday will give it ample time to show up.

Since you're flying, take only your clothes, your toiletries, and, if you already have it, your computer. Anything else can be shipped or bought on campus.

The cheapest way to send things is likely Media Mail through the postal service, aka Book Rate. You can send books, DVDs, etc. this way. The cool thing is I've never had the person ask me to look inside the box...you can put heavy stuff in there and send it that way. Just have it taped up and ready to go. May take over a week, but very cheap. You can send boxes to your school ahead of time a week or two if you want, and they should hold them for you. If you are ordering dorm stuff, just have it shipped directly to the school to save you money.

My school instructed us to put "New Student" and your name on it, if you don't know your box number or campus address.
