Hi, i'm a rising senior looking to major in either economics/international relations/political science. I looked at the USNWR rankings (they seem to be the most popular) but also looked here and saw a thread where those rankings should not be taken seriously.

i don't think my stats are exceptional enough to get into harvard, yale, etc. but they match schools from USNWR 20-mid 30 rankings. specifically, i am interested in Georgetown, Tufts, Rochester, Wake Forest. What are the prestige/reputation of these schools in the states for economics/international relations/political science? Are they good schools? I didn't see Tufts, Rochester, Wake on CC's top colleges, for example. thank you!

Georgetown is probably the best in the nation for international relations. An Econ/international Relations degree from georgetown would (I imagine) be far more valuable than some of the most selective schools’ degrees in the same programs due to the connections, location, and internship opportunities the school provides for its students

It’s easy to do some homework online to look into top IR programs; additionally, there are plenty of other rankings to add to the pile, such as Forbes, Payscale.com, etc Do read through the Fiske Guide to Colleges–it’s the best.

Tufts, for instance has one of the most renowned IR programs in the country in its Fletcher School, up there with G’town:

And though it is not on CC “top colleges”, for a reason that has more to do with “thread counts” and not true interest. Tufts appears on a vast number of “Chance me” threads/ college lists, plus has an admit rate this year in the 16% range, so it is in demand and it is selective.

Thanks everyone!
How about Rochester? Is that a good school for economics/polisci/IR? It’s a school that I am looking at a lot, as my stats would qualify me for significant merit aid.
