I was just sent an invitation in the mail (snail mail and online) to apply to Tulane! The letter sats that there is no application fee to apply and that I’ll automatically be considered for scholarships. Is this offered to all Tulane applicants, or is this something special?
I’ve been interested in Tulane for a few years now, and getting this definitely has peaked my interest again.
Thanks!
@TheAtlantic
I am a huge Tulane supporter, but this is something done by many schools that feel you probably are a good candidate based on limited information they have about you. So don’t take it as a positive or a negative, but simply as a way for schools to reach out in a way that helps them stand out to students they think are a good match. And based on the fact that you have been interested in Tulane already, they were right!
So to directly answer your question, applying to Tulane is free for everyone, and all applicants are automatically considered for merit scholarships based largely on grades, strength of schedule and test scores that range from $10,000 to over $30,000. They let you know about these scholarships at the same time they tell you if you are accepted. If you apply EA or SCEA and get your application and other documents in early, many students get this decision as soon as mid-October.
So it is special in the sense that you have something in your record that triggered Tulane reaching out, but that is still a kind of wide net. It should not be taken as any indication that you are “in” or otherwise have a leg up. But by applying EA/SCEA and getting your app in as early as possible, you improve your chances dramatically. Be sure to do both essays (not really optional despite the notation) and to give a lot of thought to both, especially the “Why Tulane”.
Good luck. We are here to try and answer any other questions you have.
P.S. Oh, and not to be a jerk or whatever, but you are probably the kind of person that would want to know. The word is “piqued”, not peaked. You would think peaked makes sense, but alas. Common error.
Lol ok, thanks for your help @fallenchemist I thought so but didn’t want to assume anything. I plan on applying EA.
(Thanks for info about the piqued thing too)
