Hi everyone,
I have a 3.6 GPA which is weighted and a 1630 SAT score, I am a very bad test taker which is shown in my SAT score. I get very distracted and it takes me a long time to answer a question so I have a hard time with focusing on the test. My question is if I should talk about why my SAT score is so low in the optional essay section on the application? Or should I just leave it blank?
Thanks,
Sara

Hey Sara, the essay part is a good opportunity to discuss any shortcomings you might feel are apparent in your application. If you want to, you can definitely write about this. Try not to make it too much of a pity party (in my opinion) and try and stay positive and maybe talk about ways you are working towards overcoming this weakness? (not sure, just a suggestion)

From everything I’ve read optional never means optional on a college application.

I don’t know if it will hurt your application if you don’t write an essay but the fact that you took the time to write one (especially if you connect it to why you want to go to Clemson) definitely will help you be viewed in a positive light. It’s like job applications, cover letters are optional but you should probably write one if you can.
