Question about the Penn supplemental essay.

The prompt is asking how we would explore our academic and intellectual interests at Penn. Does that mean that they really want me to only hone in on my major and how I would pursue that utilizing Penn’s unique resources and kind of neglect writing about what social aspirations I might pursue, such as joining a club? Would I be out of line talking about clubs I want to join in addition to talking about my academic interests?

Haven’t looked at the prompt this yr but will look if you cut/paste it here. If it specifically says academic/intellectual, then yes – it is mostly about academics, majors, and career goals. BUT that doesn’t mean you can’t mention an EC - sometimes ECs can be a tool for learning just as much as classes can. I have no idea what you want to study but if it’s bio and you’re uncertain about medicine, well there are ECs that allow you to get to know MDs at Penn Med/HUP and shadowing them will help you figure out if med school is for you. In that type of example, an EC is going to be part of your academic interests. Now for an EC like the club that goes on hiking/rock climbing outings – little bit harder to pull out an academic connection there.

@aj725 Here is the prompt: How will you explore your intellectual and academic interests at the University of Pennsylvania? Please answer this question given the specific undergraduate school to which you are applying. (400-650 words)
