question about transcript for admission

Hello, on the Stanford website they say "Our most competitive applicants often have 4 years of English, 4 years of math (including Calculus), 4 years of social studies, 4 years of science (including Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and 4 years of a foreign language." And for their recommended preparation they have this: http://www.stanford.edu/dept/uga/applying/1_2a1_acaprep.html

I only have 3 years of foriegn language and 3 years of history/social science so I fufill the recommended prepartion, but not what they said before. Would this hurt me?

Also, In 10th grade I got 2 Bs one 1st semester and one 2nd semester in AP government, but in 11th grade I got all As with taking the hardest courseload. Also, in 11th grade I did not take any history/social science class since I did not have any room. Would those 2 Bs hurt me or would they show I can't handle the rigor of history/social science classes?

it's a freaking B

If you are a STAR with an incredible HOOK, no problem.

Otherwise, it sounds like your schedule was not planned very well.

There was always the possibility of taking extra social studies and languages at a community college or with independent study.

Without them, you are not "most competitive."

I was in the same position. I'm a physics major at Stanford how, so social sciences/history and foreign language weren't my top priorities. It depends which classes you have taken and how advanced those social sciences/history and foreign language classes are. I took French through AP French Language which I imagine would be perfectly fine (it's the equivalent of 4th year language after all). For social sciences/history I did debate and MUN, then took the required regular history class for 9th grade plus AP US and AP World History. Maybe a bit weak in social science/history... I ended up taking 6 year-long science classes plus a year of computer science instead, so I guess that was ok?
