I just noticed that some of my d s dual credits had been transferred to her transcript online, however I'm confused as they did not give her any credit for math when she took both AP Calculus A/B and AP calculus B/c and earned A s in both. They took her AP bio which she doesn't really need for nursing anyway and took both AP English s but gave her nothing for the maths which we were told they would take. She's hoping for credit for 141 and 142 so that she does not have to take 122 for nursing which as I understand it is a lower level then 141/142. We will be happy with at least credit for 141. Very confused as to why everything else transferred? Anyone else have a problem with this? She also has credit for intro to statistics/ elementary stats which did not transfer either?

/\ I think she was told in orientation these definitely should transfer. I’m just confused because I know a lot of things don’t transfer but I always thought that AP calc transfers pretty much anywhere plus we spent a fortune on dual credits!

Check your records and be sure her ap scores were sent…credit is give based on those not based on class grade. If she took those test this past spring they sometimes take a while to post. (But looks like they go othrt scores) AP didn’t send D’s and had to call them but yes you should get credit depending on score (3,4, or 5). Follow up in person now that school has started.

Scmom12. Were your d s dual credits as well? We paid about 500.00 to have her take the AP calc thru the community college so she has both listed on her college transcript that we submitted. She was told by nursing that u could submit dual credits . We want the grade to show on the college transfer transcript. All her other grades are showing including both English 101 and English 102 , as well as Bio 101 ( I think that’s the equivalent to Ap bio) . We have an affiliation through our local community college for the dual credits . She did well on tests too but then we waste the money we paid for these college credits thru the community college. If that makes sense? I think when you use the score the grade wouldn’t show ?

She actually has a transfer transcript with a gpa showing based on the classes they already transferred that is a separate gpa from USC gpa.

Ours was strictly AP. Are you saying that you took an equivalent course but did not take the AP exam? I don’t know much about dual credit - so they actually figure a grade for that in to your USC GPA as when you have a transfer credit? Sorry, I think I missed the point is that you want GPA to reflect grade, not just credit. If they’ve given you number grade credit for other dual courses then I think you need to talk to someone in person. Sound like something fell through cracks.

Yes that’s exactly what I was saying. Actually I’m surprised that they transferred everything in with the grade and that she has an overall gpa showing already. The reason this is important to her is that nursing admission is based on her GPA so if they took most of the transcript, why were all the math courses left out. They didnt take any of her Spanish dual credits either, perhaps because she tested out ? The math is confusing though. She did well on ap test, also got 100 on the algebra placement so I’m not sure why they wouldn’t take those credits off transcript. She’ll have to look into it… Thanks for your help!!!

^For Spanish, she has to take a placement test. The DLLC (Dept of Literature, Language, and Culture) requires everyone to take a placement test. Typically what they do is whatever level you place into, if you take that class and get an A or B, they’ll give you back-credit for previous courses. (Up to 7 hours: 121 and 122) I don’t know that they give credit for lower level language courses taken at other schools.

I would definitely just call the Registrar and ask what’s going on. If they’re not the right people, then they can definitely forward you to the right people.

Thanks AUgirl and scmom12. And yes she did take the placement test and placed out of having to take any language since Nursing has minimal language requirements. I’m not that concerned about the Spanish transferring. She definitely wants credit for the math though and should be able to one way or another using the test score or dual credits. We just paid a lot of tuition for her dual credits and hope they will transfer.

Let us know what you find out. I know instate colleges/tech schools have a transfer agreement. But, for instance, my D took a summer school course at USC and attends another school. Credit will transfer but won’t be figured in GPA there. Lots of study abroad are the same. So I’m not sure that the fact it is a college credit rather than AP makes it a slam dunk that you get it figured in GPA. Hoping for the best!

Hi scmom12…I will let you know…its just so confusing. We were actually surprised to see that she had a transfer GPA and an overall GPA showing. My older d had transferred a few dual credits at another large public university in VA and that is exactly the way they transfer credits as well (the way you described… as long as you had a C or above the credits do not get figured into the GPA at all but she was able to use them to meet geneds etc)…thats what we were expecting to happen…why this is an issue to her is that she only has ever had one B in her life and that was an 89 in BIO which they did transfer as a B (our high school does not have a plus minus system so it goes on college transcript as B)…and now that they transferred that and not any of the 15 credits of As in Math…that one B is hurting her GPA…which we never expected to happen…and BIO 101 does not fulfill any prerequisite for nursing so that class is really only hurting her and not helping her at all. She needs to contact nursing to see if that B will hurt her when they are filling the spots for nursing seats. She can use her AP test scores to get the math credit, however now that they transferred that B(only 4 credits of it instead of 8 thank God) in for AP Bio why not transfer the A’s in for Calculus 1 and Analytic Geometry and Calculus 2 and Analytic Geometry as well. She is strong in math and took every math available to her in high school and scored very high on math SAT so she s just looking for some credit for the math. To be honest…if they arent going to transfer those A s in with the B then Id rather not transfer anything in if that’s possible and just use the test scores instead…just dont want to see her GPA affected before she’s begun. I know down the road the B could help balance something else out, but why was that taken and not at least some of the math? Hopefully its an over sight or a mistake. She is positive nursing advisors said the Calc would transfer as dual credit as many students were asking about it…so we’re keeping fingers crossed. If nursing was not so competitive would not be so stressed about it!

Sorry that my very long post went in twice?? not sure what happened there?

Question about AP credits…we requested DD’s scores be sent to USC a month ago. Where would we look to see that she received the credit for her APs?

Look on her self-serve Carolina. Go to student records and look under academic transcript (drop box will say for advising). D’s AP credits are listed under transfer credit tab.

She doesn’t have a drop box for advising under student records…

/\ /\ I called the registrars office today and spoke with a very nice woman who basically told me that things are very crazy right now. both with getting the AP test scores input as well as dual credits/transfer credits etc. She said that they are extremely busy with students who took summer coursework and that it would not be unusual to not have everything input for a freshman student at this point. The people in charge of AP/transfer credits are not taking calls right now because it is so busy. That makes sense, since I am sure there are seniors who are trying to make sure they have credit for anything taken this summer etc. I also spoke with a Nursing advisor who said that things are crazy with the new system, etc and to just keep following up to make sure credit is given whether for AP/transfers etc. So hopefully the system will be up to date soon, but at least for freshman its not an emergency…students just need to follow up and stay on top of it.

Luv - strange, it was there when I looked. Obviously, as NJ said, the system is still being updated. Honestly, even without the hassle of new system, D was told as freshman that sometimes credits didn’t get applied until after school started. Just keep checking back - you do want it correct before advisement for spring.

?\ Really weird! I was on computer and thought I would just double check to see if there was any change on my d’s transcript page and its not there now…I no longer have an advising part either and can no longer see the transcript or the GPA etc…it was there this morning. Perhaps they are getting too many calls and removed it for now?

Thanks guys! I will just keep checking…not too worried about it yet!
