Are transfer essays supposed to be creative or straightforward? If they are supposed to be creative, how would I do that? Also if anyone is able to read mine let me know.
I am also looking for a definitive answer to this. I mean, I believe they are supposed to be straightforward with a bit of creativity. I start mine with an anecdote and talk about how this experience led me to want to pursue a certain path and then talk about how my current school does not offer the resources (major, classes, etc) that I need to pursue it. How did you structure yours?
I did straight forward because I have so many things I wanted to elaborate on that there wasn’t much room for creativity. I’m wondering if there is anyone who transferred that can give a definitive answer
Anyone else?
Hey there! As you two have already pointed out, you can structure this essay in a straightforward, ‘here’s-the-facts’ way, OR find a more creative way to tackle the prompt. Sorry to be ‘that guy,’ but…there’s no definitive answer on how you structure a transfer essay. The only important thing to keep in mind? It should sound like you. The transfer prompt is a lot more pointed than any Freshman Common App prompt, but that doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice your writing style. If adding in a ‘creative flair’ doesn’t feel organic, then you don’t want to force it for its own sake. Or if you’re a natural storyteller, there’s no need to write an expository essay–tell a story about how you decided you wanted to transfer! So long as you address your reasons for transferring in SOME way, there is no required structure you have to use to get you there.
