Question about UF Transfer

If you apply to the University of Florida as an incoming freshman and get denied, I was informed that they will reconsider you as a transfer student if you earned your AA in high school. However, would you have to change your major? I am interested in becoming an engineering major but don’t think it’s possible to have all the prerequisites for the major and enter as a junior.

Paging @Gator88NE (aka the best poster on CC re: all things UF).

When you’re admitted as a “transfer” student, it’s the college that’s doing the review and accepting you. In this case, your major does matter. If you apply as any major other than engineering, they may not let you transfer out of the college that accepted you and into engineering. You can ask UF about this…

I would recommend not worrying about it. If you want to be an engineering major, that whatever classes you can that meet the requirements (like Calc, chemistry, physics). Keep your GPA up and apply. If you don’t get accepted as a “freshman”, then the college of engineering may accepted you or not. If not, you still have plenty of options, such as going to another school, going to a CC and transferring, etc.

There is also the option (if offered) of starting at Santa Fe. Look into that.

Hi @Gator88NE,
I have a question about prereqs and I was wondering if you could help me out. I am applying to UF for spring 2021 but I am taking one of my prereqs in fall 2020, so UF will not have a grade for that on my application. Is that okay or do I need all my prereqs done AND have a grade for them in order to be accepted?

@gogators259 it depends on your major and which prerequisite it is. It is fine to be finishing for most programs but not other majors like Accounting.
