So I know that you cannot directly apply to Ross as an incoming undergraduate freshman - however, I do know that you can select preferred admission on your application to get a reserved spot for sophomore year.

My question is as follows -

I have heard it is significantly harder getting accepted into Ross than it is getting accepted in to Michigan's college of arts and sciences. So I ask, is it possible to select preferred admission to Ross on your application and not get the preferred admission but still get in to UMichigan (just without the reserved spot)? Or is it that if you get rejected for preferred admission you will get rejected all together from the school?

I would like to know because if so I feel I'd be better off applying as a hopeful Econ major to the college of arts and sciences and then just applying to Ross as a sophomore.

Ross is really where I'd like to end up at UMICH but I am afraid it will ruin my chances of getting in to Michigan.

If it is possible to get rejected for preferred admission to Ross but still get admitted to UMichigan please let me know - that is my main question. Also, any suggestions on whether I should go for Ross or Arts and Sciences would be much appreciated! (Bit of info., I am not an incredible applicant so I'd say my chances of getting accepted to UMICH arts and sciences are rather high while my chances of getting admitted in to Ross preferred are rather low). Thank you.
