How many hours a night will I have to study for AP Biology & AP U.S. History if I want to get an A and a 5? I have decent memory, not that good, but I can memorize about 30 words in about 30-60 minutes. And I usually just procrastinate for my language classes so I study the night before a final. But because I procrastinate I end up getting a B+ in the class. Does anyone have any good strategys to help me do this? Should I start studying now?

Bio - I studied for an hr the day before a test and got a high A. For the AP test, I studied 1.5 hrs a day from mid-March.

USH - I studied for 5 hours (we had to memorize all the dates, facts, etc.) on the days before tests. [I got an A- in USH] For the AP test, I studied 3 hrs the day before.

I got 5s on both of them.

There’s no point studying right now.

Ahh thanks I feel a lot better

Hmm you said you study 5 hours before the day of the test… That might not work because I play sports in the fall and spring. So I’ll just study 2-3 hours a day total for bio & ush.

I didn’t think bio was terrible. I’d study for about an hour or two the day before a big test and be fine. I actually never even studied for the AP exam (although we did review all of the material in class the week leading up to the test) and I got a 5. I think you’d be good studying an hour or two every day for a few weeks before the exam just to refresh yourself. I don’t think the coursework will be overwhelming.

AP US History does not require five hours of studying before a test. That is ridiculous. Just read the chapters for the test and make sure everything sank in( you know deep down when you have earnestly learned something new). Once you have read it once for understanding, simply skim over it once or twice to MAKE SURE you understand everything. That should not take more than two hours. Worked for me every time and I did that to study for the exam and got a 4. Yeah I know what you’re thinking- “OMG a 4? That’s horrible!”- I’ll be honest, my essays were never stellar. But that is the honest truth man. Never study five hours for a non-standardized test or final in high school. Jorghi is most likely a very slow reader.

I’ll be fine with a 4. Lol I don’t even know what AP Classes are like. But I just want to get a 5! Also I suck at writing essays though. If thats going to be a problem.

Though my GPA is 3.7/4. I know its bad but I studied 0% all year long.

For APUSH, I basically went through the entire year not learning anything. My teacher was pretty bad, and I was too busy to self-study. About a month or so before the AP test, I found this small prep book from REA that helped me immensely. Some of the things in that book were directly asked on the AP test. I ended up getting a 5, but I would NOT recommend going this “cramming” route. It might not work for you- especially since you mentioned that you’re bad at writing essays. (I think that my essay-writing abilities helped me a LOT for the APUSH test). If you pay attention in class, do the homework, study on your own, and get the REA book, I think you’ll be fine.

For bio, I studied for an hour a day the week before the test and I got a 5. The multiple choice was not difficult at all, but the free response questions were hard. But, the curve for the AP bio exam is pretty good.

How many words can you memorize in an hour though?

^If you’re approaching this as “how many words can you memorize in an hour”, I’m doubtful that you’ll be able to pull off 5s. Not only this, but if you haven’t been able to motivate yourself to study in the past, what makes you think you’ll magically study hard when the work gets even harder?

Because I have a goal in life. Much more important than education itself.

I’ve already finished my AP Bio self study; I started the first of this month and did about an hour a day. But, I’ve already had honors biology two years ago, so…

I got high 5’s on practice tests. Not studying anymore till the day before the test.

^^Ok, so why are you asking about getting 5s and As then? And from the way you worded it, it sounds as if your goal is not relevant to education. I repeat: what makes you think you can study hard when the workload is harder if you haven’t been able to motivate yourself to study earlier?

If I want to study, I’ll study. I want to study.
Honestly, studying will be my least fear. Your speaking as if 50% of the world is weak minded.
The reason why most people fail AP exams I’m guessing is, because they don’t study (enough).

The thing is, will I have enough time to study while getting sufficient sleep?
You can doubt that I might not be able to get a 5. But in the end, it will be only me who gets the outcome.

And my goal is, if not, superior.

Edit:
You speak as if you needed motivation, not everyone is the same, everyone changes.

Haha I’m already studying.

^^Lol…10char

Bio- studied for about 2 to 3 hours per test, achieving A’s on about 90% of them (most of the B’s came earlier in the year when I didn’t have a study-machine going). Then I crammed starting in Easter for the AP, especially the stuff I did not know. I got a 5.

US- studied honestly for about an hour before the tests, but my class was easy as hell and history comes more easily for me than science. Crammed starting around Easter, but less than Bio. I got a 5.

Yeah, I heard my AP USH teacher is easy. So I’ll be alright.

Lol the only summer HW I got for it was to read 1 chapter.
