Question concerning LL.B/J.D.

Could anyone tell me the difference between a LL.B and a J.D.? I know that the LL.B is usually completed by non-US students but are they basically the same? Should one complete a J.D. after the LL.B if one wants to practice in America? Thank you very much.

No real difference. The J.D. degree is just kind of a weird designation invented in the U.S. to indicate that it is received (typically) in a post-graduate setting. LL.B. is the typical degree in other countries, because it is usually not a graduate degree, just an extended undergraduate course of study.

The strange thing is that if a person wants to continue legal studies after receiving a J.D., they typically end up getting an LL.M. (Master of Laws). So the Master's degree comes after the Juris Doctor degree.
