After receiving your notification that you were named a Ervin Scholar with full tuition and stipend to go towards room and board did the financial aid office give you any aid for the rest of room and board since it is around 10,000.00 a year?

That's a good question...I recieved a partial award, so I don't even know how much I got. I'm wondering how they treat the remainder. When we were there, the fin aid guy said that merit aid does not affect need-based aid. But I still don't know what that means. I'd imagine if your EFC is under 10K, there will still be some need-based aid...but it may not be all grants.

Well our EFC is around 11,000 so I guess we would not be entitled to anything else! Stanfords aid would turn out to be a better deal for us. I hate the EFC there is no way we could afford that much for one year!! We sent e-mails to the financial aid office if I find out any info I will post it!

haha....really. My EFC was more around 20-21K, so anything is looking pretty good to me.

They did say that merit awards do not reduce need-based awards, so if you look at it that way, WashU might be free. There's no way to know until you get the aid award back.

to finally answer this question...washu simply didn't give me any merit aid...I got half-tuition from the ervin program.

This actually isn't good at all because since washu gave me no other aid...its cheaper for me to go...just about anywhere. So much for St. Louis.

They gave my daughter the full tuition and the stipend and nothing else! I will call to talk to them but as it stands 315 dollars seperates them from Stanford!

Well, I think going to Wash U for only the cost of room and board is a pertty good deal if you ask me. Be happy that your daughter got a full tuition scholarship and stipend!

$10,000 is not a "pertty good deal" for some people. A $315 difference between Wash U and Stanford is not a great incentive for my daughter to attend Wash U.

In my case...more like 24K....hello!!!!

I sent in my Umichigan deposit today...so much for WashU.

the network of the ervin scholars program and the preestige of being an Ervin scholar is something to consider....Although, i must admit, it would be a tough decision between Wash U and Stanford. After visiting for the finalist weekend i would take the support and connections of an ervin scholarship over regular admission at almost any other school.

oh and congrats kenny...you'll enjoy being a Wolverine next year. We'll miss ya at Wash U tho.
