Current Presidential Scholars:
-Were you asked to interview for any other USC Scholarships?
-Town & Gown
-USC Alumni
-Scion etc...
-If so, did you receive these awards in addition to Presidential?
-And how do they coordinate with Presidential?

Past Presidential Scholar Candidates:
-Were you asked to interview for any other USC Scholarships?
-Town & Gown
-USC Alumni
-Scion etc...
-Were you awarded any of these?
-Also, were you awarded the Deans Scholarship instead of the
Presidential?
-If you got Deans and any of the above how did they
coordinate with Deans?

Sorry for so many compound questions, but I appreciate your input.

The scholarships you list must be applied separately, as they are of different organizations. I personally did not apply to any of them as I found out too late though.

My sons just put in the one application each. One got a Presidential and another random one (I think it was just made up!). The other got the Dean’s and another randomly named one. You can get more than one although I think it my be rare.

Thanks for your responses!

flatxca you answered my question and my concerns. My son interviewed for Presidential last week and then this week all of a sudden has been asked to interview for Town & Gown, SCions and a local Alumni Club. This got me wondering maybe he wasn’t being considered for Presidents but instead was provided with the opportunity to interview for all these other scholarships.

I happy to hear that both you son’s received either Presidential or Deans Scholarships plus the others you mentioned. Clearly all these scholarships are truely independant of one another.

By the way congratulations on both your boys getting in to USC and receiving multiple scholarships! Wow, that is pretty amazing. You are obviously doing something right in raising your kids.

Fight On!

I also know someong that received the presidential, the Scion and a local SC scholarship. Good Luck and I hope your son gets everything!

CollegeFrenzy, just to further reassure you, last year my daughter received both a Trustee and an Alumni Club one.

Best of luck to your son!

CollegeFrenzy,
SC has loyal alumni. There are many merit scholarships. Sometimes students do receive a combination of scholarships.
I have seen posts on this forum from parents who found it was less expensive to enroll at SC than a major public university due to the scholarships offered.
Our local alumni club here in Georgia gives three partial, competitive scholarships to students who enroll at SC from this state. Last fall 23 students enrolled at SC from this area.

Thanks for the reassurance and for the great information. We are hoping for the best, every little bit will help!

Fight On!

Do you have to be invited to interview for the other scholarships or do they just appear? We interviewed for Presdientail and are anxiously waiting to hear…

My son the received the Presidential and another scholarship only interviewed for the presidential. My son the got the Dean’s and another did not interview at all.

My daughter interviewed for and received the Presidential. It was the only USC scholarship she received. If I’m not mistaken, some of the ones you listed depend on where you live or a student’s legacy status. We were very happy with what she got.

Sorry to be a pest but did your son who got the Dean’s interview for the Presidential? We got the impression that many potential Presidentials who were not offered Presidential did end up with Deans - would love to know.

Josie17, it sounds like flatxca’s son got the Deans from the get go and never interviewed for Presidential. Having said that, I have heard that it is likely that Presidential candidates that did not get selected will be offered Deans, but it is not automatic.

Also, you can check out this link if you haven’t seen it:

All three of the additional scholarships my son is eligible for: Town & Gown, Alumni Club and SCion required an invitation for an interview. SCion requires that the applicant is related to a USC alumni, both my wife and I graduated from USC. For the Alumni Club you must live in the area where the Alumni Club is located and for Town & Gown you must permanently reside in Southern California.

Also to be eligible for all these scholarships, we had to complete a separate application which was due last December.

It is encouraging to hear that there may be other scholarships that aren’t listed on the above list that just show up without having to go through an interview like the one’s that flatxca kids received.

Fight On!

I will dig out the files to see if I can find the actual names. I think there has been some “fudge” money in the past that the admissions of could use at their discretion. No way to know if it is available this year. We can hope!
