I will be entering as a freshmen this year and I'm really confused as to what I want to take. There are certain classes that I'm quite interested in taking:

Asian American Literature R2a or something
UGBA 10
Economics 1/2..or 100/101..I'm doing quite well in AP Econ and I'm pretty confident about getting a four or five, should I retake 1/2, or go straight to 100/101?
Math 16A
Chinese

Are these classes reasonable for a first semester? I was also really interested in the History 5 or something which is Renaissance to present, intro to city and regional planning, publich health courses, and psychology.

Does anyone have feedback on what they think of those courses? Thanks.

I think the courseload is manageable.. assuming you're Haas intended though, you might consider Econ and UGBA in separate semesters. you'll want to get good grades in those especially. And if u have any kind of Chinese background, Chinese should be rather easy and fun (at least it is for me). Overall, none of the courses you listed are too hard...

this is a really big load, esp if you're pre-Haas. all those classes are weighed heavily in admissions. i'd suggest holding off on ECON till next semester, so you can adjust to berkeley classes and have more fun joining clubs and such your first semester...

Here's some comments:
-R2a is a good class to start with so you can learn how berkeley prof's want you to write.
-UGBA 10 is fast paced and intense--3 missed questions on the exam can swing your grade a whole letter. its good to take it early so you know if you really want to do business, and to get a feel for haasholes...
-Math16a is easy if you're a math person.
-languages are normally easy and fun if you can speak it already
-history classes are generally a lot of reading

Don't go straight into upper div econ unless you're very good at econ.

Take the R1a, math 16a, and one or two of the other couple left, whatever is appropriate and interests you most.

A big and resounding no to UGBA 10! Please, don't do that yourself your first semester. UGBA 10 is intensive and has a rigorous curve. Save it up for spring semester or the following fall semester. Just not your first!

Also, ditto on upper div classes. Really, really bad idea.

UGBA 10 IS HARD? The only reason why I'm choosing this to take during my first semester is because someone suggested to me, that UGBA 10 is really easy. As long as you do your homework, don't fall behind, it's pretty easy (according to my friend who's at Cal who graduated from Lowell-my high school-last year)
