question for current UVA students!!!

I love UVA and am very interested in applying nex year! Can anybody tell me about/suggest any communications related classes since UVA does not have a communiations school??? I also heard there are like a billion clubs at UVA! Can someone tell me about some of the really interesting and/or popular clubs???

Look into Media Studies for something to deal with communications.

There are just too many clubs to consider, but I'll say any singing group (a capella or regular) and the frats/sorors (they are clubs too).

I have a few questions of my own:

How hard is it to get into the McIntire School of Commerce? Is it one of those "you're pretty much in unless you f**ked up really badly" or an actual admissions process?

Can you bring your car as a freshman? If not, when? And would there be enough parking?

school of commerce has about 60% acceptance rate. i think the average gpa of people accepted is like 3.4. So no, its not a shoe in.

not this again...

technically - you can't have a car the first semester of your first year. In practice though you can have a car any time, you just may run into a problem buying a parking pass. However, you can just park on the street - although legal street parking spaces will be pretty far away from first year dorms

OK...let me rephrase: when can you LEGALLY bring a car onto UVa's campus and be in compliance with all of UVa's policies?

Second semester of your first year

the business school @ UVA is ranked #2 in the nation, so basically you have to work hard to get in. I'm planning on applying!!!

well futurenyustudent,

Legally, you can bring your car on grounds if you have a valid drivers liscense. in compliance with UVa's policies, you can't operate a vehicle in albemarle county. choose which one you support i guess.

Wait...then wouldn't state law trump university policy? Because the Commonwealth of Virginia has jurisdiction over the grounds of the University of Virginia as well as all of Virginia, and UVa happens to be a state institution...and the Commonwealth of Virginia is a larger jurisdiction than the University of Virginia...I'm confused.

uva can make any policy they want. it's not really going to be enforced. however, you can not buy a parking permit, so you'll have to find a street spot a million miles away and hope drunk kids don't break your mirrors off when the walk by.

and uvamalex09, you can't buy a permit from uva until second year according to P&T.

Hey I have a funny question. You agree to not drive until your 2nd year when you go to UVA. So if you're caught driving, that would be a breach of the honor code, right? Getting kicked out of UVA for having a car. I wonder if they would actually do that haha.

I don't think it would be an honor council issue, there was a post about this maybe two weeks ago. It would be a UJC issue, though.

When did we agree to not driving a car during our first year? I remember signing the honor code for lying, cheating, and stealing, but what's this about driving?

By enrolling and paying tuition, you agree to all policies at the university.

hmm. You got me there, but I just felt that was more of an "adhere" rather than an "agree." You could argue that adhering involves agreeing, but I won't.

maybe you don't agree with the policies, but you agree to adhere ;)
