Question for Female Students

What is it like being a female non-engineering student at RPI? I am a prospective student and I would love to hear some experiences from girls at the predominantly male university.

notorious for the awful gender ratio

Really not as bad as you might think. You have plenty of female friends and you can have plenty of male companions. The non-engineering isn’t too big of a deal; you’re bound to find other girls who are in every major at RPI. I have never felt like there was a lack of girls for me to talk to or to interact with. If you look around, we’re everywhere. Just not as much, but we’re here. There are times when I’m walking to class though, and ahead of me I see a sea of guys’ heads. And it makes me feel a little funny to be somewhat wading through a group of guys, but it’s a fleeting feeling and not too bad.
