Question for nyu tisch students!

Hi, I was wondering what Tisch looks at for their MT program. I heard that you have to get accepted into NYU first to apply to Tisch? Or can you just apply to Tisch right away. And I wanted to know what you guys got on your SAT’s, how many AP’s you took, and your GPA. ANd is the competition and skill level really high? Like godly amazing people? THANKSSSSS

Hey! I’m a freshman this year in the new studio for MT. To apply to the program, you just do ONE BIG APPLICATION to both Tisch and NYU. Either you get accepted to both or neither, you can’t get into only one. My SAT was around 2200, took 3 APs, my gpa was around 3.2. And yes, the people here are pretty ridiculously talented :)

jeeez 2200 on the SAT. That’s impossible for me ;X . So in order to get into Tisch you apply to NYU and NYU has to accept you first or something? Or do you apply to NYU and Tisch??And how talented is ridiculously talented? Do you have like a youtube page or like a page of you singing btw? = )

for example. do you think a guy like Bruno Mars would be able to get into TISCH for his voice even though it’s not like a musical theatre voice? Just wondering xD ty a lot

you do the NYU application and do an audition at Tisch.

My understanding is you must pass muster at NYU first… that means academics. This is not to say you need 2200 on your SATs.

^^^There is no “first” in the admissions process to NYU/Tisch. Academic review counts 50% of the admissions decision and artistic review counts 50% of the decision. Both processes go on at the same time with a different “review” committee. It does not work like some schools where you are academically admitted or pass review in order to audition or is not like some schools that are a bifurcated process whereby you get accepted (or not) separately by the university and by the BFA program. At NYU/Tisch, it is all or nothing. And academics and the audition both count as much as one another and are reviewed at the same time period and the decision is released close to April 1 (for RD). So, no, you do not “pass muster at NYU FIRST.” You must pass muster for the university and pass muster for the BFA program both and at the same time.

And…for the OP…you apply to NYU and that requires you to pick a school to apply to at NYU (you can ONLY apply to ONE school at NYU) and you would be stipulating Tisch. So, if you are not admitted to the BFA at Tisch, you will NOT be considered for any other program or degree at NYU.

yes soozie is right of course. hope that clears things up.

I don’t have anything like that of me singing, and to be honest, I don’t think that would help you. Focus on what YOU are good at, what shows your potential and makes you unique. Not everyone is good at high belting, not everyone is good at legit soprano, not everyone has a rich low register- see what I mean? We are all unique as singers and performers. You don’t have to sing like Patti Lupone at your first audition, just go in and do whatever you do best. Good Luck!

Well put! Looking forward to meeting you soon.
